Long ago, the world was made by a power known only as the First God. The First God was all things at once: love and hate, misery and elation, creation and destruction. It first filled the world with giants, but the giants were imperfect, and so, in a fit of pride and fury, the First God destroyed them.
When it made men, the First God feared it might repeat its mistake. So it decided to break itself apart — to cleave its mercy from its cruelty, its tenderness from its scorn.
But the two halves, so diametrically opposed, could not coexist. They warred with one another, cutting each other into smaller and smaller pieces. Those pieces battled and recombined until the world itself was nearly consumed in the chaos. This was known as the Shattering.
Fragments of the First God scattered across the world. Some became demigods, some became demons, some sank into earth and stone. The world was left broken but alive — and it fell to mankind to build something from the ashes.
Now whole civilizations stand strong, magic is abundant, and fantastical creatures lurk in wild places. The memory of the Shattering fades, but its consequences are inescapable. This is not a world of obvious heroes and clear villains — the choices your character makes will matter, and they will come with a cost.

Each of you has been approached individually by a representative of a powerful mage named Zhev. The offer was tailored to give you what you want most — coin, information, or something else entirely. Whatever the terms, you accepted.
You don't know what Zhev is working toward. Only that he knew exactly what you wanted.
A sentence or two — your background, where you came from, what you're good at. Do you have enemies or secrets? What makes your character unique?
The most important question. What did Zhev offer you, and why was it enough? This doesn't need to be complicated — just true to your character.

* Though humans are dominant, the wild magic of the Shattering gave rise to creatures of many strange forms. All races are available — we can discuss the details.
